孙sūn 子zi 兵bīng 法fă

sunzi-imagesAfter evaluating your own strength (inner aspect), now it’s time to mold your external environment in your favor. Molding the external environment  means gathering the advantageous factors and then creating the momentum then you can take the initiative.

Commanding, in short, is using tricks: When you are able, show that you  are unable; When you have a plan show you are not using that  plan; make that which appears close seem far; make that which appears far seem close; When the enemy is greedy then tempt the enemy;  When the enemy is disorganized  then crush the enemy; When the enemy is strong then study the enemy; When the enemy is powerful then evade the enemy; When the enemy is choleric then antagonize the enemy; When the enemy is humble then swell their ego; When the enemy is at ease then give them no rest; When the enemy is united then divide them; attack them when they are not prepared, surprise them when not expected. These are the keys to victory. Disclose nothing in advance.

Before the war,  gather in the temple to predict the result.  A win is the result of  thorough calculation. A no win is the result of inadequate calculation. Thorough calculation leads to a win and inadequate calculation leads to no win, and what is the result of no calculation? I can predict the result from observing this.
